Woodlands Clementine Cabernet 750mL Bottle, $54.99

‘Clémentine’ is our Woodlands Brook Vineyard Cabernet blend. Produced since 2015, the wine takes its name from Andrew and Marie’s daughter; and much like that lovely little girl we love and are getting to know, over time we’re learning more about this site. The Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot were already planted when we purchased the vineyard in 2008. Close planted, spur pruned, and in need of a little TLC, the wines produced initially were tannic. Over the years we have been converting the plots to cane pruning to soften the tannins, and create a more balanced canopy and fruit set. We planted the Cabernet Sauvignon in a gravelly meadow of Woodlands Brook in 2009, and these vines were brought up cane pruned and unirrigated. 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot. This young wine is vibrant, sensuous, and full of density and power. A forest of brambly, wild raspberry and mulberry aromas feature on the nose. The palate follows, adding hints of dried citrus peel, berry confiture, ceylon tea and cinnamon, and glides through to the finish with plush tannins and well-balanced acidity. This wine is very comforting in nature, and really brings a smile. The greatest vintage of this wine we have ever produced. The 2018 growing season was absolutely ideal, and will certainly go down in history as one of Margaret River’s greatest. The palate is seamless and integrated, and very dense and powerful. Waves of soft ripe fruits combine with the array of ripe velvety tannins, finishing with lively acidity. Extremely expressive from beginning to end – seamless, dense, and beautifully powerful.
